Fujairah is a small Emirate with a flat coastal plain surrounded by mountains. I had a quick run out last weekend into northern Oman which is geographically much the same, and then the other day had a drive up into the hills to the west of the city (town?) to Hatta oasis. It’s a plateau and water source in a bowl in the mountains, and increasingly now a resort town for Dubai residents (I’m unsure of the adjective!) who want to get away from the humidity of the coast in the summer months. Central to the area is Hatta Lake, a reservoir stemming from a natural lake in the cleft between several steep sandstone hills. Minimal vegetation, quite pretty and reminded me of Stickle Tarn in Langdale in an obscure way. Need to get a Land Rover sorted….. the horizon is calling.
