Good to be back in this crazy city as it gets ready for Ramadan. Staying with desert buddy Gregg and catching up with the rest of the desert crowd. Gregg’s given me a lovely old signed first edition of ‘Long Range Desert Group’ by Bill Kennedy Shaw, signed by the author and with all sorts of annotations to the text, presumably also by the author – things like Lat and Long for desert features written in margins etc. A wonderful gift. Collected a load of desert gear from friends here ready for use in the UAE too – heavy cases to fly back on Saudi Airlines with! I miss this place, and the people.
